How we use cookies and similar technologies for storing and accessing information on your device, under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and ICO guidance.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Similar technologies (such as local storage) work in the same way. They can be “strictly necessary” (needed for the site to work) or used for other purposes such as analytics. Under PECR, non-essential cookies may only be set with your consent.
2. Our approach
We keep cookies to a minimum. We use only strictly necessary cookies to run the Service, plus privacy-first analytics that do not set identifying cookies. We do not use advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell any data collected through cookies.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These keep the Service working and secure. They do not require consent under PECR, but we disclose them here for transparency:
- Session cookie - keeps you signed in after you log in with Discord. Expires when your session ends or after a set period.
- Security tokens - protect against cross-site request forgery and keep authentication safe.
- Patreon linking cookie - a short-lived value set only while you connect your Patreon account, to protect that flow. It is cleared once linking finishes.
4. Similar technologies we use
We use your browser's local storage to remember small, non-identifying preferences on your own device, such as which “What's New” update you have already seen and whether you have dismissed a sponsor notice. This information stays on your device, is not sent to us as personal data, and is not used for tracking.
5. Analytics
Where we measure usage, we use privacy-first, cookieless analytics that do not identify individuals and do not set cookies that require consent, so no analytics consent banner is required. If we ever introduce cookies or technologies that do require consent, we will ask for it first through a consent tool and let you reject them as easily as accept them, and we will not set them until you agree.
6. Managing your choices
You can control or clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings, and most browsers let you block or delete them. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop you from signing in or using some features. For how we handle personal data more generally, see our Privacy Policy.
